Meet our Speaker: Albert Royo
Albert Royo has always been involved in the fields of public affairs, government communications and international relations. Mainly focused on e-democracy, civic tech, EU affairs and public diplomacy, he currently works as Director of Public Affairs at Government to You (Gov2U), a European non-profit organisation founded in 2005 by a group of professionals from the fields of Legislative Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and community activism. Gov2u is based on the idea that the new means of communication are essential to improve a new and more inclusive form of direct and participatory democracy.
From 2013 to 2017 Albert Royo was Secretary-General of the Public Diplomacy Council of Catalonia. During this period, he designed and implemented a public diplomacy strategy that placed Catalonia on the international agenda and raised its profile in the international public opinion. With the involvement of the region's main public and private sector institutions, he opened new horizons in terms of projecting Catalonia’s brand to the world, working with foreign stakeholders, journalists and scholars.
Albert Royo also worked for the European Commission for more than 10 years (from 2001 to 2013; now on leave), serving as Press Officer and Political Reporter in the EC’s Barcelona office. Prior to this, he worked in Brussels for the European Union’s Committee of the Regions and the Government of Catalonia’s Delegation to the EU.
Albert Royo holds a B.A. in Political Science (1999) and an M.A. in Applied Economics (2002) from the Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona. He lectures International Relations and European Affairs at the Barcelona School of Management (Pompeu Fabra University) since 2011.
